Dubbo trainer Clint Lundholm is hoping new stable addition Mossamine can make it back to back feature wins in Sunday’s $26,000 Narromine Gold Cup (1600m).
The former Graeme Rogerson-trained gelding was a last start impressive winner of the Forbes Cup (1600m) on August 5.
After winning the Forbes Cup by 4.8 lengths, Mossamine was transferred to Lundholm.
The seven-year-old Mossman gelding, a winner of eight races, is raced by a syndicate headed by Walgett-based Chris Clemson.
Lundholm previously trained Relentless Lad for the same syndicate.
“Rogy sent him up to Forbes and I brought him home,” Lundholm said. “He’s done very well since arriving. Despite being on different feed and different surroundings he’s settled in really well. He cleaned up the feed bin straight after Forbes.
“I’ve ridden him every day since he’s been with me. Greg Ryan has come down a couple of times to ride him and he opened his eye. He likes the horse.
“He’s come to me fit and ready. That’s a bonus.”
Lundholm has won several country cups but is yet to win a major cup at a TAB meeting.
“Relentless Lad won two Walgett cups and a Geurie Cup but I haven’t won a TAB feature yet,” Lundholm said. “The horse is going really well.
“He’s a big strong animal who relishes his work. I’m very happy with him.
“We’re all hoping for another result.”
Mossamine rises from 54.5 in the Forbes Cup to 59kg on Sunday.
“He’s a high rating Benchmark horse and it just goes to show Sunday’s race isn’t as strong as the Forbes Cup,” Lundholm added. “I don’t think the extra weight will worry him.”
Jockey Anthony Cavallo has retained the mount.
“Choc (Cavallo) used to ride him at Rogy’s. He knows the horse,” Lundholm said.
Mossamine, a veteran of 60 starts, has had two attempts at the 1600m and won them both.
