The seven-year-old gelding began his cups spree taking the Forbes Cup (1600m) wire to wire by 4.8 lengths on August 5 when he raced for his former trainer Graeme Rogerson.

After that win he was transferred to former champion apprentice Lundholm and again showed his rivals a clean pair of heels winning the Narromine Cup (1600m) by 1.3 lengths on August 18.

“Let’s hope its three in a row,” Dubbo-based Lundholm suggested.

“All going well we’ll then try and win the Dubbo Cup with him.”

The $50,000 Dubbo Cup (1600m) is staged on September 15.

Mossamine, a winner of nine from 61 starts, is raced by a syndicate headed by Walgett-based Chris Clemson.

“I’m very lucky to get him,” Lundholm said.

“He’s the sort of horse that works well. You know you’ve got a horse under you that is something better than average.

“He’s a great horse to do anything with. A pleasure to have around the stables.”

Lundholm was taken by Mossamine’s Narromine Cup win.

“He handed up the lead then took it back again and when they tried to catch him he just went up another gear,” he said. “He went from 54 kilos in the Forbes Cup to 59 at Narromine and handled it real well.”

Mossamine will carry 58.5kg in the Moree Cup with regular rider Anthony Cavallo in the saddle.

“He’s drawn real well (barrier two). Perfect,” Lundholm added. “If he doesn’t lead he will take a sit just off them.

“I haven’t done a great deal with him coming back to 1400 metres but he looks well and has done well at home.

“I’ve just kept him a bit on the fresh side.”

Mossamine heads the early betting with Usain Prince, Clever Hans and Double Idea rated his major rivals.
