Thump Joins Kris Lees Yard

3 minute read

Quality filly Thump has joined the Kris Lees stable and will be chasing further Black Type success during the BMW Sydney Carnival next autumn.

Thump was originally owned by Nathan Tinkler but has been purchased by Cressfield Stud at Scone for an undisclosed amount.

This season Thump, a daughter of Red Ransom (USA), won the Group 2-Silver Shadow (1200m) at Warwick Farm before venturing south where she thrashed Blue Diamond winner Miracles of Life in the Gr 3-Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in late September.

Lees is no stranger to training a good horse for Cressfield as old marvel Motspur wore their familiar grey and black diamonds, yellow sleeves and cap when he earned $645,910 during his 12 win career, which included successive Scone Lightnings in 2011/2012.

Yet another Australian Bloodstock (AB)-purchased French import is in light training at the Lees yard and judging by his European credentials this stayer is faster than his name suggests.

Slow Pace, a son of Distorted Humor, was prepared in France by the legendary Freddie Head and was a winner of the Gr 3-La Coupe (2000m) at Longchamp in June which followed victory in the Listed-Prix de la Porte de Madrid (2000m) in mid March.

"After enjoying success with Award Season, Hathras and, of course, the recently deceased Salon Soldier for the AB boys, I am really looking forward to this bloke as he is the highest-rated overseas Thoroughbred to enter my stable," Lees commented.
