Ecuador sat outside stablemate Almighty Charge for the majority of the Rosehill 1400m, looming up as if he would win with authority at the 200m before having to cling on to a narrow verdict as Almighty Charge rallied back late.

Well-supported Target In Sight never fired a shot back in the field.

Jockey Tommy Berry was confident that Ecuador could go on and win again.

"We sat outside the lead and had a good run," said Berry.

"He's still very green, he was looking around a bit in the straight.

"He's a class act and going to go a long way."

The rain is expected to see the Rosehill track downgraded over the course of the day.
