3 minute read

Hawkesbury trainers Garry Frazer and Tony McEvoy made a profitable country trip on June 6 when they travelled to Taree to win three of the eight races including the feature Wingham Cup.

Frazer's grand warrior Scottish Border collected the 1600m Cup whilst McEvoy won consecutive races with the heavily backed pair Chastened and Tonalli.

Scottish Border (Chris O'Brien) added another country cup to his record, having been successful in the Bathurst Cup (1800m) in February.

The seven-year-old finished gamely to defeat Al's Gold and Knot Out with favorite Single Spirit fourth in what should be a good pointer to next month’s South Grafton Cup (1600m).

Frazer freshened Scottish Border him after he had finished down the course in Grand Marshal's Provincial Stayers' Championship (2100m) at Hawkesbury's stand-alone meeting on May 3.

The Wingham Cup was his sixth victory, and he has also been placed on 14 occasions.

Earlier in his career, Scottish Border ran third in the 2010 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) and second in the 2011Goulburn Cup (1600m).

Frazer had two Wingham Cup runners with Pureness finishing 10th.

McEvoy continued his terrific strike rate on NSW country tracks with his double at Taree.

His victories with three-year-old fillies Chastened and Tonalli gave him nine winners from 21 starters in little more than 12 months sicne he established his Hawkesbury stable.

Andrew Gibbons rode both winners.
