Truran looking for more cup success at Taree Friday with Attitude Pays

3 minute read

Gary Truran, the owner of Krambach Cup competitor Attitude Pays, is no stranger to success at Taree.

In 2012 Truran, who owns Wyong Smash Repairs, had the pleasure of winning the Taree Cup with The Paymaster who recorded 11 wins during his career.

Tomorrow at the same track Truran will be hoping lightly raced eight-year-old gelding Attitude Pays can give him another cup success in the $20,000 Krambach Cup (1600m).

Trained by Damien Lane at Wyong, Attitude Pays, a Matthew Bennett mount, will look to record back to back wins after scoring last start over 1600m at Coonamble on October 12.

While Lane admits tomorrow amounts to a step up in grade from a Class 3 win last time around, he remains confident the gelding can acquit himself well.

“If he can reproduce his form from last campaign he’ll be hard to beat,” Lane said. “Last preparation he went really well with three wins and several placing’s.

“After spelling he came back with two good runs then put in two bad ones.

“I had blood taken and he was found to have a virus. He’s over that now and his last win was good, albeit against lesser opposition.”

Lane also nominated Nissile for the Krambach Cup but that gelding will head to the Canterbury night meeting on Friday instead.

Attitude Pays was a very late starter to his career not having his first race until he was a late five-year-old. He began his career with Allan Denham in Sydney.

“He was a real bugger early on, a buck jumper, but all that is out of him now,” Lane revealed. “He’s always shown a lot on the track but it wasn’t until last campaign that he transferred his work to raceday.

“He’s trained on really well since Coonamble. He was strong to the line there. The others had their chance to beat him.

“He had a good gallop on Monday and pulled up well.

“He gets in on the limit weight (54kg), has drawn barrier one and if he doesn’t lead he should be third on the fence.

“I think I’ve got the horse pretty spot on.”
