Tale Of Two Tracks For Frazer Family

3 minute read

Hawkesbury trainer Garry Frazer will have divided loyalties on Friday when he has runners at both his home meeting and the iconic Bong Bong Cup fixture.

Daytime, a three-year-old filly by Choisir, makes her debut for Frazer at Hawkesbury in the Dynamic Garage Door Services Maiden Handicap (1100m) against her own age and sex, whilst his old-timer Scottish Border lines up for his 64th start in the Bong Bong Cup (1560m).

Frazer has given his 20-year-old son Jordan the mount on Scottish Border, hoping he can win the Bong Bong Cup for a second successive year after winning the race last year on Beaveroo for Wyong trainer Stephen Schofield.

Jordan's partner, apprentice Claire Nutman, will keep the "family flag" flying at home by riding Daytime, which her trainer father Richard will saddle in Frazer's absence.

Frazer obviously can't attend both meetings, and has opted for his first trip to Bong Bong.

"Never been there before," he said. "Hopefully Jordan can remember how to get to the track from last year."

Whilst Jordan could claim only 1.5kg last year on Beaveroo (who carried 62kg), Scottish Border's massive 73.5kg tomorrow means he will be able to utilise his 3kg allowance.

"I'm sure it will be a weight-carrying record if he can do it," Frazer said.

"Jordan often rides him work and a couple of the other boys who ride him are around 65kg."

Scottish Border, who has won the Bathurst Cup (1800m) and Wauchope Cup (1600m) at Taree this year, also captured the Broadmeadow Mile at the Newcastle spring carnival in September. He had no luck when seventh over 1600m at Randwick on November 8.

Daytime ran third to Shebrings Class (a subsequent first-up Kembla Grange winner) in a 760m barrier trial at Hawkesbury on October 14, and Frazer will race her in blinkers.

"She has drawn awkwardly and the experience under race conditions will do her good," Frazer said.

Warwick Farm trainer Adam Wadick is the opposite to Frazer. He is bypassing the Bong Bong Cup with Tara Man to focus on the Clarendon Homes Cup - a Benchmark 60 Handicap (2000m) - at Hawkesbury.

Kathy O'Hara rides Tara Man, who scored over 2300m at Muswellbrook in August.

Tye Angland returns to provincial racing with an excellent book of six mounts at Hawkesbury and shapes as the jockey to follow.

With hot weather forecast for Friday 36mm of irrigation (on top of 2mm of rain) has been put on the track in the last week.
