Prizemoney payments accelerated from 1 January

Racing Victoria (RV) has today announced that prizemoney from Victorian races will be paid to trainers, jockeys and owners on a weekly basis from 1 January 2015.

RV Chief Executive, Bernard Saundry, said the acceleration of prizemoney payments from the current fortnightly cycle was designed to assist industry participants and the conduct of their racing business.

Belle on the ball on debut

Tom Sadler might have escaped from his fall at Moonee Valley last Saturday relatively unharmed, but he would have felt some delayed pain after witnessing Belle Melba’s debut at Warrnambool today.

Sadler was to have ridden the Clinton McDonald-trained filly in the $17,500 Reflections In Port Fairy Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate, but is still awaiting a medical clearance to return to race riding.

Newitt hoping to bow out a winner

Craig Newitt can’t wait to get Singapore. Literally.

The top jockey is not required to take up his temporary riding contract until New Year’s Day, but flies out with wife Karli and their three boys aged five and under on Monday.

It means Saturday’s Sportingbet Park (Sandown) meeting will be his last in Australia for some time and while part of him is sad to be leaving, that was overridden by the excitement of his newest adventure.

Malady making his mark, by George

Emerging trainer Vincent Malady was well aware of the esteem George Hanlon was held within Australian racing long before he took up a position at his Leopold stable 20 years ago.

Hanlon is revered as one of the all-time great trainers of stayers ' three Melbourne Cup wins will do that  ' and was destined to be one of the initial 10 trainers inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Hot Streak ' Chad Schofield

Spring certainly ended on a better note than it started for star young jockey Chad Schofield.

His activity in the lead-up to the Spring Racing Carnival was virtually non-existent due to a couple of lengthy suspensions, but the 20-year-old got back in time to play a part at the carnival's major meetings.

Sale sees Pale Mimosa head south

The all-conquering Chris Waller stable has been further strengthened after acquiring talented Irish mare Pale Mimosa.

The Group 2 Lonsdale Cup (3200m) winner has been purchased by Australian connections for what was believed to be in excess of $1 million, with the talented stayer to be sent to Waller’s Sydney stables in the coming weeks.

RAD Board - Allan Clark

Trainer Allan Clark was convicted and fined $1,500 at a hearing of the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board held today.

Clark was convicted for breaching AR 178, which states:

Subject to AR 178G, when any horse that has been brought to a racecourse for the purpose of engaging in a race and a prohibited substance is detected in any sample taken from it prior to or following its running in any race, the trainer and any other person who was in charge of such horse at any relevant time may be penalised.
