'Rebel' with antics out to go one better at Armidale Monday

3 minute read

Kathy Cunningham, part-owner and wife of trainer Paddy Cunningham, describes Carry Me Gee Gee as a “like a hyper active kid.”

“He has a few little antics now and again,” she continued. “He’s a real character.

“He’s ditched a few riders in his time and things like that.

“He’s just a rebel.”

The lightly raced four-year-old gelding lines up at Armidale Monday chasing his second career win in 15 starts in the Professionals Armidale Class 2 Hcp (1400m).

By Carry The Flag out of Gee Gee, purchased as a yearling at the Magic Millions by the Cunningham’s and a winner over a stying trip in Brisbane, Carry Me Gee Gee is the first live foal from Gee Gee (by King’s Theatre).

“Her first foal (by Carry The Flag) was born dead,” Cunningham revealed. “We decided to send her back to Carry The Flag again.”

The Cunningham’s have enjoyed good success with home bred’s and while Carry Me Gee Gee is no super star his last run at Glen Innes suggested another win is in the offering.

The gelding was a last start 1-1/2 lengths third to Playmate and Rock Right On in a 1400m Class 2 handicap at Glen Innes on January 10 when he ran on strongly from the 150m.

“The run was enormous,” Cunningham said. “Paddy was rapt.

“He’s just led him off the pony since then to try and keep him a bit fresh.

“He works good on the track, he’s actually one of our better track workers and he enjoys his racing.

“He likes Armidale. We’re just hoping for a bit of luck.”

Carry Me Gee Gee was previously a good 1.3 lengths second to All Is Bright in a 1400m Class 1 handicap at Inverell on New Year’s Day at his second run back from a spell.

Carry Me Gee Gee launches from barrier 2 and will carry 55kg after stable apprentice Jodi Worley’s two kilo claim.
