Fillies Outnumber Colts In The Blue Diamond

FiIlies narrowly outnumber the colts among the 84 third acceptors declared on Tuesday for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 28.

There are 43 fillies among the third declarations led by the unbeaten Fontiton, winer of the BD Fillies Preview at Sandown on Monday.

Fontiton is the current Blue Diamond market favourite while the big firmer was Burnstone after an impressive 3 ½ length win in the Colts & Geldings Preview.

Robbie Griffiths, trainer of Burnstone, remains in the hunt for his first Group 1 with six third declarations in the Blue Diamond.

Co-trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig hold the biggest hand with 19 third acceptors ahead of the Godolphin stable with eight.

Lonhro is the best-represented stallion on the list of third declarations, with eight of his progeny remaining in the race, followed by Exceed And Excel (7) and Not A Single Doubt (6).

There are 63 Victorian-trained two-year-olds in the running, 19 from NSW and two from South Australia.

Late entries close at 12 noon on February 23 with final declarations taken at 9am on February 24.
