Cavanough says Price Of Glory is the first horse he’s ever prepared to win a 2000m + staying-test first-up.

“I’ve trained horses for a mile first-up but never at the mile and a quarter or at this level,” he says.

Cavanough is employing European training methods that he's been researching over a number of years.

“When I was in England with Peter Moody and Black Caviar I had a the privilege of talking to some of their top trainers, including Sir Michael Stoute, on how they tune them up to win at 2200m and 2400m first-up .

“They described the sort of foundation they laid. And in France we had breakfast with Americain’s trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre and he took us up for some gallops at Chantilly and went through his routines.”

Cavanough says he’s happy with Price Of Glory’s preparation and says he wouldn’t change anything he’s done going into the Albury Cup.

“Most recently he had two 1000m jump-outs here with a 15 minute gap between them.

“He went 1.04 in the first one and 1.02 in the other and he had good recovery. I’ve got faith in my horse.

“We know he can run a mile and a quarter, he’s very fit and carrying no surplus and I’m confident I have done the job — what the result’s going to be we will find out today."
