Bindi Cheers On A Roll With Rapidus

Rapidus, the Taree-trained stayer who is fast building a cult following with a succession of wins, will be among the entries for Sunday’s $33,250 P. Smith & Son Real Estate Murwillumbah Cup.

Entries close at 11am on Tuesday with the Bindi Cheers-trained Rapidus among several expected quality entries who have featured prominently in recent lead-up races.

Automatic qualifiers for the Murwillumbah Cup (2020m) include last month's Murwillumbah Cup Prelude winner Vodnik, last week's Murwillumbah Cup Preview winner Rapidus and last year's Murwillumbah Cup winner Ongoing Venture.

The 2012 Murwillumbah Cup winner Castlemagne King is also set for a return but will have to go through the normal ballot process to gain a start.

Rapidus, who began his career with the Bart Cummings stable, made it four wins on the trot last Monday when taking out the Murwillumbah Cup Preview (1900m) at Ballina to secure a ballot-free berth in Sunday's big race.

His trainer Bindi Cheers knows a thing or two about the Murwillumbah Cup having taken out the race in 2013 with Zar Zar Binks, another of her renowned iron horses.

Cheers is well known for giving her horses hard racing on quick back-ups with Rapidus a perfect example.

He has hit a four-race purple patch of wins al recorded in a time span of three weeks beginning on May 17 when he took out a Benchmark 55 on his home track at Taree.

He followed with successive wins in Benchmark 65 races at Grafton before saluting in the Murwillumbah Cup Preview.

The six year old Darci Brahma gelding has matured into a natural stayer and will be a great chance to give Cheers her second Murwillumbah Cup on Sunday.

Other feature events on Sunday's include the $23,000 Murwillumbah Newmarket (1200m) and $17,000 Tyalgah Cup (1530m).
