Civic Stakes In Buchanan's Sights

3 minute read

Kristen Buchanan is weary of backing up Two Blue in this Saturday's Listed $100,000 Civic Stakes, but says she can’t find a reason not to.

Two Blue defeated the fast-finishing Kristy Lee last Saturday in what was a great front-running ride by Paul King and Buchanan said the six-year-old mare was thriving in the stable on Monday morning.

“We’ll just see how she goes in the next few days but it’s going to be very tempting to go there [Civic Stakes] because she’s pulled up so well,” Buchanan said.

“She always puts in 100 per cent and sometimes can give herself a gut buster, but she’s eating up well and I’m happy with her.

“I penciled in the Civic Stakes as a possibility and it looks like she’ll get in well with the weights, but the horse will tell me if she’s ready for the run.”

Buchanan is mindful that she must take advantage of what’s on offer for her in-form mare, but she’ll have to do it without King who is booked to ride in Queensland.

“She’s in good form and on top of the world at the moment so I’m confident,” Buchanan said.

“She can be tricky to ride. You have to keep her in the bridle for as long as possible and Paul did it perfectly on Saturday.”

Buchanan said the plan was to be conservative with Two Blue this preparation but she feels the horse deserves her chance to win a Stakes race.

“She loves Rosehill and a track with a bit of sting out of it so this is the perfect time of the year for her to be racing but I’m still thinking long-term with her, even a race like the Ramornie Handicap is there,” she said.

“I just want to get her some black-type this preparation and if the Civic Stakes is right for her then we’ll go there.”

Acceptances will be declared for Saturday’s Rosehill meeting by 9am on Wednesday.
