Anthony Cummings believes progressive mare Hieroglyphics could develop into a stakes performer later in her career.
The four-year faces a class test when she lines up in the Inglis Melbourne Premier In March Handicap over 1200 metres at Randwick on Saturday.
Cummings considered Hieroglyphics unlucky not to win last start when nosed out by Progressive at Canterbury last start with that mare winning again in Sydney during the week.
Hieroglyphics had won well first up beating another subsequent city winner in Festivity, her second career victory in just six starts.
“She basically carried the winner over the line with her last start,” Cummings said.
“Her first up win was full of merit so she is a promising mare who is a chance of pushing her way into stakes grade later in her career.”
Cummings also has two-year-old El Sid making his debut in the Surf Meets Turf Plate over 1000 metres.
The son of Sidereus ran a close second in his only barrier trial at Randwick last month.
“He made a few mistakes but the form out of the trial has stacked up very well when (trial winner Good Standing) was a bit unlucky not to win first up at Rosehill,” Cummings said.
“His trackwork around that and since then reflects that sort of trial and he’s going to be one of the main chances in what looks a hot race. “
