Favourite Happy Clapper began well and settled back in seventh place, between runners, travelled well behind a strong pace. He was under riding as he switched to the rails on straightening, picked-up and sprinted quickly from the 100m and drew clear with his limit weight (53kg) to win well. Queensland-trained mare Tinto travelled well back in tenth place, one off the rails. She went deep on topping the rise, challenged strongly at the 100m and fought well for a very good second, conceding 3kg to the winner. It’s Somewhat raced back in ninth place but deep from his wide barrier (14). He moved up well nearing the 200m, challenged shortly afterwards and battled strongly with his top weight (59kg) for a very good third. Outsider Moral Victory went to the front and set up a clear lead, running along at a fast pace (first 1000m 58.40) and was only headed at the 100m before finishing (1.9 lengths) fourth, putting up an excellent performance under the circumstances. Mighty Lucky settled beyond midfield on the rails, eased across heels at the 300m and then put in a good run (deep), continually making ground for a good (2.2 lengths) fifth. Telepathic was slowly away and was near last in the early stages. She was still well back coming to the home turn, went to the centre of the track on straightening and kept making good ground for a good (3.6 lengths) sixth.
