Promising galloper on the road to greater riches at Muswellbrook Tuesday

3 minute read

Muswellbrook trainer Jan Bowen describes highly promising three-year-old Enjoyable as “a gentle giant.”

Big in stature and with a turbo charged motor to match, the gelding by Star Witness makes a much anticipated return to racing on his home track on Tuesday.

Enjoyable lines up in the In Memory Of Bernie Budden 3YO Country Plate over 1000m.

Last campaign, only the second of his career, Enjoyable showed enormous potential going through the preparation winning all three runs.

He won his maiden at Scone then a double at Muswellbrook, the latter when successful in a Benchmark 60 event on September 20. Enjoyable led all three races throughout over 1000m.

Spelled for 93 days, Enjoyable resumes on Tuesday without the aid of a barrier trial or jump out.

That is Bowen’s only concern with the sleek sprinter who is destined to tackle much better city class races in coming weeks.

“He’s going in without the benefit of a trial or jump out but it’s only 1000 metres and he should handle it,” Bowen said. “I expect him to run a big race but there is a heap of improvement in him.

“I can’t label him a special or anything like that but he’s doing everything right at home. He’s certainly got some ability. He’s already showed that.”

Enjoyable didn’t pass a veterinary test when offered as a yearling and Bowen managed to get the gelding to race on lease.

“When I got him I had the chiropractor to go right over him and there wasn’t anything wrong,” she recalled. “He’s sound.

“He’s just a big horse, a really big horse. He’s a gentle giant.”

Bowen said despite the gelding’s immense stature he was pretty straight forward to train.

“He can be a bit of a handful coming on and off the track at trackwork but apart from that he’s good,” she added. “I think he’s up to city class.

“There’s still plenty of upside to him. He doesn’t do much wrong in his races. He’s got plenty of speed to be there from the get go. He makes his own luck.”

“I’m taking things one race at a time with him and time will tell if he can get 1200 metres but the way he attacks the line finishing off his races suggests he will get that sort of trip which opens up plenty of opportunities.”
