When Tavis Chivers, Grant Hartmann and Kel Sullivan asked trainer Grant Marshall to buy them two horses, they never imagined the return they would receive from Slots considering he cost only $1700.

On Saturday Slots lines up in the $175,000 Breeders Classic (1200m) where a win would take her career earnings to $367,690.

“She’d have to be the cheapest horse in the race,” Marshall said.

The Casino Prince six-year-old is coming off a slashing second to Howmuchdoyouloveme in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on January 8.

“She’s been going very well and her run in the Takeover Target was terrific. She was still last at the 150 metres and flew home,” Marshall said.

Marshall had to do things differently with Slots this preparation after indifferent form last time in and says the change to her training program has revitalised the sprinter.

“I’ve changed her work around and it’s helped. She’s working over longer distances and it’s making her finish off her races better,” he said.

“She doesn’t work with any of my other horses mainly because they can’t keep up, but she can also over-race a bit when she gallops with another horse.”

Slots has won or been placed in six of her nine starts at 1200 metres and handles all track conditions but she’ll need to continue her good form on Saturday against a field that is set to include the likes of classy mares Amicus, Dublin Lass and I've Got The Looks.
