Sydney trainer Chris Waller is well represented in the 2016 BTC Cup with three runners.

Waller will start a pair of three-year-olds in the 2016 BTC Cup in Japonisme (Glyn Schofield) and Counterattack (Sam Clipperton), who drew barriers three and 11 respectively, as well as Group 1 winner Delectation (Jason Collett), who drew out in 12.

Peter and Paul Snowden are the other trainers with dual representation in the 2016 BTC Cup, saddling up Dothraki from barrier one and Charlie Bo from six.

Canberra trainer Matthew Dale has Fell Swoop in the 2016 BTC Cup, the last start 2016 Victory Stakes winner drawing gate 10 for Jay Ford.

Boom sprinter Malaguerra make his second attempt at a Group 1 victory in the 2016 BTC Cup, drawing gate eight for Glen Colless.

Darren Weir has accepted with Stratum Star (Brad Rawiller) and drew stall 13 while Todd Willan’s Artlee (Michael Cahill) has gate four.

Two mares have accepted with the in-form Two Blue (Paul King) coming up with the outside barrier while Echo Gal (Tegan Harrison) jumps from two.

Malaguerra is now the winner of seven of his last nine starts, advancing to score his first victory at Group One level well. He was smartly away and chased the strong-running leader (Two Blue) until getting to the front at the 100m. He then dug deep when challenged to prevail in a photo finish, putting up an impressive effort. Dothraki had a good trip in fifth place. He got through to third on turning for home and looked the winner as he moved up at the 200m. He then fought really well but was out-gamed by the gutsy winner in the closing stages to take a very close and good second. The favourite Japonisme raced in sixth place and was under riding nearing the home turn, chasing a strong pace. He went deep on straightening, put in a good run from the 200m and kept making ground for very sound third. Two Blue showed all her renowned pace and set a fast tempo (first 600m 34.78) and was only headed at the 100m, putting up a smart effort in holding on for (1.5 lengths) fourth. Fell Swoop was caught three wide, without cover, from his wide barrier (10) racing in fifth place on a hot tempo. He was under pressure at the home turn but kept fighting on for (1.6 lengths) fifth, despite a difficult trip. Of the others, Delectation was near last to the home turn and was running on strongly along the rails in the straight before being badly blocked over the closing stages for (2.4 lengths) eighth, in a noteworthy effort.
