3 minute read

A spate of retirements have been confirmed for mares beaten in last Saturday’s Tatts Tiara at Eagle Farm.

Group One winner Precious Gem and classy Sydney-trained Group winners Cradle Me and Sultry Feeling are all off to stud.

The Henry Dwyer-trained Precious Gem, by Econsul, has been retired to stud after finishing seventh on Saturday behind Miss Cover Girl.

A rising seven-year-old mare, Precious Gem won the G1 UBET Classic (Robert Sangster Stakes) at Morphettville in May before she was offered for sale at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast.

China Horse Club purchased the rising seven-year-old as a breeding investment for $825,000 and she will now be sent to Sledmere Stud in the Hunter Valley to let down before she is served by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver in his first season at stud at Coolmore Australia.

China Horse Club was part of the Coolmore-led syndicate that purchased Vancouver last year.

Cradle Me, another mare to change hands at the MM National Broodmare Sale, ended her career with a sixth in the Tatts Tiara.

The daughter of Easy Rocking was purchased by new Queensland stud Aquis Farm for $300,000 at the Gold Coast sale and gave her new owners a quick return when she won the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 11.

The rising eight-year-old mare, trained through her career by David Pfieffer at Warwick Farm, won 11 of her 51 starts.

She has a date at Aquis Farm at Canungra with Spill The Beans, the Group winning son of Snitzel who was retired to start his study career after he won the G2 QTC Cup at Eagle Farm on June 11.

Gooree Stud’s multiple stakes winner Sultry Feeling has been retired after she added a valuable G1 placing to her record with her third in the Tatts Tiara.

The daughter of Encosta De Lago is a dual G3 winner of the Triscay Stakes and the Birthday Card Stakes for Randwick trainer James Cummings. Breeding plans for the mare are yet to be finalised by Gooree management.
