From The Stewards’ Room – Tuesday July 12

3 minute read

Racing and Sports have scanned the stewards’ reports to find the key information punters need to know from Australian racing on Tuesday July 12.

Wyong:

Call The Coppers (Race 1): reared behind the barriers resulting in its rider S Clipperton being dislodged. Call The Coppers then cantered a short distance before being recaptured, was examined by the club's veterinary officer behind the barriers and passed fit to start. S Clipperton was uninjured.

Tidal Rip (Race 1): When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider B Avdulla stated that the gelding raced extremely keen with him today. He said that in the early stages he anticipated taking up a position with cover trailing Smiling All but bearing in mind the manner in which his mount was racing he was unable to restrain his mount and as a result raced wide throughout the event. He added that he recommended to Stable representative A Double that in his opinion the blinkers should be removed from Tidal Rip for its next race start to assist the gelding to settle in its race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative A Double undertook to report back on the progress of Tidal Rip in the days subsequent.

Fleeting Melody (Race 2): when questioned regarding her riding of the filly, apprentice W Costin stated that she anticipated take up a forward position in the first two, however when her mount was slow to begin and shortly after the start was crowded between Allegheny and Tapavino, Fleeting Melody lost further ground and settled further back than she had intended. She stated that rounding the home turn she was following Allegheny and anticipated shifting to the inside of that runner when it attempted to improve into the race. She said that when Allegheny held its position she was then obliged to come to the outside of that runner. She stated that she was unable to immediately improve to the outside of Allegheny when Tapavino was racing tight tell its outside. She said approaching the 300m when Tapavino shifted out to improve she was held up behind Allegheny before shifting to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running where her mount ran on well. Apprentice Costin was advised that although a clear run had been available to her for only a short distance between Allegheny and Tapavino, she should have reacted quicker to improve into that run and to take advantageous runs when they develop.

Miss Bunny Hop (Race 2): A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G Mcfarlane was advised that Miss Bunny Hop will now incur the mandatory three months bar from racing.

Hussterical (Race 3): when questioned regarding the performance, T Clark stated that he anticipated take up a forward position. He stated that after beginning well Hussterical was immediately under pressure, did not travel at any stage of the race and as a result was unable to finish its race off. T Clark added that this was Hussterical's first start without the blinkers and he reported to the stable that they should consider reapplying that gear for the horse's next race start. T Clark also added that in his opinion Hussterical would be better suited racing on a bigger track over more ground where Hussterical would travel more comfortably in what should be a slower run race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative R Singh undertook to report back on the progress of the filly in the days subsequent.

Cudabeen (Race 3): When questioned regarding the filly racing further forward today, G Buckley stated that he was under no specific instructions on how to ride his mount. He said Cudabeen was stirred up in its preliminary and en route to the barriers. He stated that after being loaded into the barriers Cudabeen became fractious although after beginning well when his mount was racing keenly with him, rather than restrain with the risk of being caught wide throughout the run, he elected to press forward and ultimately raced outside the leader Treviso. G Buckley stated that after establishing this position Cudabeen was inclined to race keenly throughout the middle stages.

Biscuit (Race 4): after being loaded in the barriers became agitated and as the start was effected reared and as a consequence lost considerable ground (4L). Trainer M de Montfort was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of Biscuit with regard to its barrier manners.

Speed Princess (Race 6): Before declaration of correct weight, Chairman of Stewards, Mr T Moxon, who was the Steward officiating in the Stewards' inquiry room at today's meeting, upon review of the start had some concerns with the start that was afford to Speed Princess (fourth placed). Stewards subsequently interviewed rider J Collett, trainer representative J Bruce and the starter D Jeffs and upon a further review of the films of the start it was established that the gate of the stall occupied by Speed Princess was slow to open resulting in that filly, which is an on pace runner, being disadvantaged and losing ground on jumping in the order of three quarters of a length. As a result, J Collett was then obliged to ride his mount along in the early stages to obtain a position in accordance with the filly's racing pattern. As the Stewards were satisfied that under AR134A Speed Princess was not afforded a fair start and such occurrence materially prejudiced the chances of that horse finishing in third placing (beaten only a nose for this position), the Stewards declared it to be a non-starter.

Celebrate (Race 6): slow to begin. Was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and in the straight. trainer G Ryan reported that it would be the stable's intention to trial the gelding where he would experiment with a one cup blinker.

The Iron Maiden (Race 7): slow to begin (2L). Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

Musical Family (Race 8): trainer of the 4th placed filly Musical Family Mr W Seelin, lodged an objection against Granite Belt (A Adkins) being declared the winner and against Kite Hill (G Buckley) being declared second placegetter, alleging interference on straightening. On the evidence it was established that shortly after straightening Granite Belt, which was laying in, shifted in slightly, and then Kite Hill shortly after shifted out slightly under pressure resulting in Musical Family being crowded for some distance and then having to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Kite Hill when that runner shifted out. Stewards found that both Granite Belt and Kite Hill contributed to the crowding of Musical Family, however bearing in mind the margin by which Musical Family was beaten by both runners, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred that Musical Family would have beaten either runner home and the objection was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry both G Buckley and apprentice A Adkins were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
