Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Wednesday’s meeting at Moonee Valley.

Shemai (Race 2) has run top two at her last five runs and has been well supported after a dominant first up victory, taking over as favourite at $4 after firming about a point and a half. She is untried on heavy going but has won on the soft and the 3kg claim for Brandon Stockdale could prove helpful in the going.

Hotel Sierra (Race 5) is now the market elect at $3.80 after prices bordering on an each way quote were available early. She weakened out at Caulfield last start but has run top two in eight of 11 starts at this track and distance and should appreciate the drop in benchmark grade.

Kievann (Race 7) is now a clear second favourite at $4.20 after firming in from each way odds this morning. He has run third at his two runs this campaign, the latest at this track and distance in Saturday grade, and has won three times on rain-affected going.

Volcanic Ash (Race 8) has been a touch costly so far this campaign but punters are giving him another chance, backing him in more than a point to take over as favourite at$3.70 with TopBetta. He was just nosed out in Adelaide last start and won his only previous run on a heavy track.
