The comeback of last year’s Australian Cup winner Spillway is over after the stallion reinjured a tendon.
A rising seven-year-old, Spillway looked to perform well in a Pakenham jump out on Monday but pulled up sore, prompting his retirement to stud.
Spillway had been retired after the 2015 autumn carnival, where he won the Australian Cup and ran fourth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, due to a similar tendon issue.However a long rehabilitation program had seen the injury respond well and connections had decided to give him another chance on the racetrack.
A British import, Spillway retires as the winner of five races and more than $1million in prizemoney.
