Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Friday’s meeting at Wyong.

Pirapala (Race 1) opened as favourite but steady support has seen her take a stranglehold on the market at $1.80, close to two full points shorter than her initial price. The Sepoy filly is on debut for Gerald Ryan and comes off an impressive win in a recent Rosehill barrier trial.

A Good Yank (Race 2) is in from an opening double figure quote to $7 on the back of good early support. Scratched from a race at Goulburn yesterday to be kept for this, he has a win and a second from two runs so far this campaign and looks ready to peak third up.

Elle Lou (Race 6) opened as the market elect but has only tightened her grip on favouritism since and has now dipped in to the red at $1.95, about 35 cents shorter than her opening quote. The Chris Waller-trained mare had terrific city form over the winter and last start took the step up to stakes grade when third in a Group 3, which looks a good form pointer for this.

Fitou put up a really good effort. She was ridden patiently by James McDonald and settled in last place in the ten-horse field before improving (deep) approaching the home turn. She sprinted quickly (wide out) to hit the front on straightening and then went on to score comfortably, handling the Heavy10 conditions well. Tears In Heaven settled in fourth spot, on the rails, got through on the inner at the home turn to challenge on turning for home. She then kept fighting well for a good second, just finding the winner a bit too good. La Muse was back in seventh place, got a split (wide out) rounding the home turn and ran on well for third, putting up a nice effort. The favourite Elle Lou settled in seventh place, was shuffled back at the 600m before fanning very deep rounding the home turn. She then steadily made ground to finish a disappointing seventh.
