Birdsville To Run 11 Races On Sunday

3 minute read

The Birdsville Races will be going ahead on Sunday with an 11-race program.

Commencing at 11am the condensed Sunday program will combine the highlight races originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday that were cancelled after heavy rains.

Birdsville, the remote outpost close to the intersection of the Queensland, NSW, South Australian and Northern Territory borders, received 55mm of rain on Thursday - more than three times the yearly average.

All roads in to Birdsville are currently closed.

The local council have used machinery to drain water from the course and ensure that the track is safe for racing.

There will be a phantom meeting on Saturday to cater for more than 7000 visitors to the iconic outback racing carnival.
