New Zealand colt Sacred Elixir has opened favourite in the TAB’s first market on the 2016 Victoria Derby.

Winner of the Group 1 JJ Atkins Stakes in Brisbane, Sacred Elixir is the $5.50 top pick in all-in betting on the 2016 Victoria Derby.

The Champagne Stakes winner Prized Icon and the Chris Waller trained High Mist are the equal second favourites for the 2016 Victoria Derby at $9.

“As per usual, the opening VRC markets are wide open with plenty of chances, but after a dominant win in the JJ Atkins during the Brisbane Carnival, Sacred Elixir has opened a clear favourite,” TAB’s Nick Quinn said.

Lord Macau, the only Melbourne Cup nominated horse in the Derby field, is at $51.
