Young Hawkesbury Trainer On A Roll

3 minute read

Young Hawkesbury trainer Mitchell Kearney is on a roll.

His success at Bathurst with Eerised was his fourth from his last nine starters – a terrific effort indeed from a small stable.

Kearney’s winning run began at Taree on December 18 with Final Trick, who scored again at Cessnock on January 29.

Lily’s Little Girl was the other successful member of the “quartet” on Kearney’s home track on January 25.

Kearney has been training for only a few years, and is clearly doing a wonderful job with his team.

And his performances are justifiably earning him extra attention.

“I have picked up another two horses, and now have eight in work,” he said after Eerised’s Bathurst success yesterday.

Kearney underlined his training skills by producing the lightly-raced three-year-old to score first-up over 1400m in the Maiden Plate.

With replacement rider, apprentice Jean Van Overmeire aboard, Eerised finished strongly to overhaul Divine Action and Queen’s Pact.

Eerised is a well-bred young horse with a future. He is by Widden Valley, a son of successful sire Anabaa and out of Rose Archway, who won the 2001 Group 1 AJC Oaks at Royal Randwick.

Kearney raced Eerised only once as a two-year-old, and then gave him two starts last spring before again giving him a break.

“He was inclined to race too keenly, so we have been teaching him to settle,” Kearney explained.

“Jean rode him really well, giving him time to find his legs and then bringing him home at the right time.”
