Oregon’s Day put up a really smart effort in winning here. She settled well in seventh place on the rails from her good barrier (2) before improving nicely (between runners) rounding the home turn. She got a split to take the lead at the 100m and then dashed clear for a soft win, running the 1600m out strongly. Toffee Nose settled in eighth place, one off the rails, prior to improving (deep) from the 600m. She briefly hit the front on straightening and then battled on well for a sound second, after having no chance with the winner. Sebring Dream raced in ninth place (between runners), went deep nearing the home turn and then battled on nicely to take the minor placing. The favourite Ellicazoom went back at the start, was deep nearing the 600m but soon dropped out to finish a distant last in performance to suggest that something was amiss.
