The Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained filly Shoals remains unbeaten after three starts, doing well in winning here at her first start in Sydney, albeit by the barest of margins. She settled well in sixth place, one off the rails in the seven-horse field behind a good tempo (first 600m in 36.20) before commencing her run from the 600m. She challenged at the 100m and battled on bit too well to score narrowly but impressively in the good quality field of fillies. Formality had a nice trip in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1). She was held up between runners on straightening, got through on the inner from the 100m and fought gamely for a very good second. Serena Bay had a good trip in fourth place before moving up (deep) nearing the home turn. She looked the winner when she took the lead at the 200m and then battled on strongly for a very good third.
