Secret Agenda Wins Historic Ubet Classic

Secret Agenda has outrun her rivals to capture Adelaide's first $1 million race, the UBET Classic at Morphettville.

The Group One UBET Classic (1200m) had a prize money injection this year, which attracted a top-class field of fillies and mares from around Australia.

Secret Agenda, ridden by Damien Oliver, showed blistering early speed to come across from barrier 16 in the 20-horse line-up to lead by the 800m mark.

Rated perfectly in front by Oliver, Secret Agenda ($15) kicked clear soon after straightening, holding off fast-finishing local mare Viddora ($8.50) by 1-3/4 lengths, with another Victorian-trained filly, I Am A Star ($6), close up in third place.

The victory by Secret Agenda was her first at Group One level and came on top of her win during The Championships, when she won the G2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick.

It was Oliver's second win in the Group One race after success on Alinghi in 2005, while trainer Mick Price had tasted previous success in the race with Bel Mer in 2009.

Secret Agenda followed her win in the Sapphire Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on 8 April with a very good win here, overcoming a difficult wide barrier (16) in doing so in taking out this Group One race. She was quickly away and Damien Oliver soon crossed her to the lead. She then set a good tempo (first 600m 34.70), dashed clear on straightening before going on to win impressively. Viddora raced in midfield, toward the inner, in the large 20-horse field. She got between runners at the 200m and finished well to take second in a photo. I Am A Star raced ninth place on the rails, got through to fourth at the 200m and then held on gamely for a good third. Of the others, English had a good trip in seventh place, briefly looked a chance at the home turn but just battled for (3 lengths) sixth while the favourite Sheidel raced behind the leader but disappointed in tiring for (4.2 lengths) 11th.
