Kehoe Looking Forward To Grafton Carnival

3 minute read

Wyong trainer Allan Kehoe is bursting with confidence as he prepares to take an in-form team to the Grafton carnival that starts on Thursday.

Kehoe said his trio Get On The Grange, Epic Dan and Crackneck are “spot on” for the trip to the Northern Rivers.

Get On The Grange will be on trial for a Grafton Cup start in Thursday’s $25,000 Grafton Cup Prelude (2200m), Epic Dan also runs on Thursday in the $25,000 John Carlton Quality (1200m) while the two-year-old Crackneck will be racing in the carnival’s feature juvenile race, the $45,000 NBN Plate (1200m) on Thursday week.

Get On The Grange has strong city form to his credit and is certain to be one of the major players in Thursday's lead-up to the $160,000 McKimms Real Estate Grafton Cup (2350m) on Thursday week.

Three starts back the seven-year-old ran second to Broadside at Rosehill over 2000m and was a last start fourth to the in-form Collateral over 2400m at Randwick after looking the winner when he took the lead at the 300m.

“The rider just went a bit early on him,” Kehoe admitted. “If he’d waited I’m pretty sure he would have got home. That last 200m just found him out.

“He’s won at Warwick Farm and Doomben over the 2200m so it’s probably his pet distance.”

Epic Dan is also in top form, having bolted in at Dubbo over 1020m following an 11-week lay-off.

“He was going to race at Tamworth last Friday but the races were called off,” Kehoe said.

“I gave him a jump out and he is ticking along nicely. He’s improved and Thursday looks a nice race for him.”

Crackneck was beaten narrowly in a 900m maiden at Newcastle on debut before running second over the same course and distance.

Kehoe has booked top country jockey Greg Ryan for his three carnival starters.
