Lindsay Park-trained, Coolmore-raced filly Formality scored a narrow but impressive first up win. She soon took the lead from her inside barrier (1), travelled nicely at a reasonable tempo (first 600m in 35.83) in the very windy conditions and then fought back very gamely when challenged to score by a head, sprinting home in quick time (last 600m 33.00). Godolphin-raced filly Alizee also put up a smart effort. She was quickly away and then settled well outside the leader (Formality), challenged that filly strongly at the 200m, and kept fighting gamely in the sprint home for a close second. Bjorn Baker-trained filly Champagne Cuddles settled well in third place, before moving up well on turning for home. She challenged at the 200m and kept running on strongly in the sprint home for a close third, also staging a good effort in this small but quality field.
