The David Payne-trained colt Ace High put up a solid effort in winning here. Having his fourth run this preparation and advancing to 1800m, he showed early pace to work across from barrier nine to take the lead, pressured in the mid-stages, held a good advantage coming to the home turn and then fought back really well in the straight for a very good win in a strong staying effort. Godolphin-raced colt Sanctioned enjoyed a good trip in third place, looked the winner when Hugh Bowman brought him up to challenge at the 200m and then kept battling on for second after seeming to have had every chance. The Stuart Webb-trained filly Coral Coast raced in third place to the home turn and kept fighting on nicely to take the minor placing in a promising effort at only her fourth race start. Sully was eighth, on the rails, switched deeper at the 300m and kept running on quite well for (5.7 lengths) fourth. The favourite Astoria was sixth, one off the rails, improved coming to the home turn but just battled in the straight for (6.8 lengths) fifth, seemingly being tested by the 1800m journey.
