Kurt's The Gold Man Of Goulburn

3 minute read

Goulburn trainer Kurt Goldman takes two horses to the races on his home track on Sunday and both could “strike gold” in the two cup races on the card.

Goldman has Shadow Vision accepted in the Crookwell Cup early in the day and then saddles up Ruthless Agent in the Anniversary Cup which is Race 6 on the program.

Both have last start minor placings on their resumes and you can easily make a case for each in the races they are competing in.

Shadow Vision finished third in a small field at Kembla Grange resuming from a spell, but his trainer believes his overall record suggests plenty of improvement is possible second up, rising in trip.

Ruthless Agent has Goldman confident of a big run in the Anniversary Cup with horse having finished runner up at his last two starts in provincial and city races.

In a day of racing that brings together the old and the new the time-honoured Anniversary and Crookwell Cups will be run on the same card as the Graeme Spackman Memorial which will be held for the first time by the club.

Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says the memorial race is a suitable tribute for the bloke everyone in the area knew as “Spacky”.

“Graeme Spackman spent many years building a reputation in the racing industry as a successful trainer and a hard-working industry participant,” Ms Fife said.

“We are pleased to be running the race in his honour on one of the more traditional days on our racing calendar and look forward to presenting the associated perpetual trophy for the first time.”

Ms Fife says it’s the start of a super strong month of racing at the tablelands track.

“This Sunday kicks off a big month for the club with a $2000 cruise to be won by any trainer who accepts at any of the three race meetings throughout the month. There’s over $690 000 in prizemoney on offer and our month culminates with the club’s showcase race day on November 26th, featuring the JCF Contracting Goulburn Cup which is worth $150 000 for the first time,” Ms Fife said.
