After winning well when resuming at Randwick in the Pierro Plate (1100m) on 17 February, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Botttrained colt Santos had to dig deep to win here in this Group Two race. He settled outside the leader (Zousain) at a quick tempo (first 600m 34.79), challenged strongly on turning for home and then fought on gamely to score by a head. Spin did not show much early pace and settled in last place in the seven-horse field before improving between runners at the home turn. He got through on the inner at the 200m and then kept battling on well for second in a good first up effort. Legend Of Condor raced in fifth place, but caught three wide. He challenged strongly approaching the 100m and battled on gamely after a wide trip for a close up third. Zousain worked early on to find the lead and then held on well for (0.6 lengths) fourth.
