Black Opal (G3)

Age: 2yo Type: OPEN

After three placing from his first four starts, all at stakes level, Godolphin-raced colt Encryption broke through for a good win in this Group Three race. He was a bit slow to move but recovered from his good barrier (2) to settle in fourth place, on the rails. He got through behind the leader rounding the home turn but he took a while to wind up in the sprint home before finishing too well over the closing stages to win nicely by a half-length. It was also a good ride by Glyn Schofield. The filly Sizzling Belle, a winner of all three prior starts, again showed pace to lead. She then steadied the tempo (first 600m 36.00), got a break at the 300m and fought back really gamely for second. Bondi raced in fifth place, one off the rails, moved up nicely (deep) rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and kept battling on well for a close-up third. The Lindsay Parktrained/Shadwell-raced filly Qafila went back from her outside barrier (8) and raced in last place until the home turn. She improved behind runners on straightening, got a split at the 250m and came with a very good late run for fourth, beaten less than a length, looking suited to further in a smart effort.
