In a close finish where the first four horses finished less than a half-length apart, the classy Gold Coast-trained filly Houtzen did best in scoring a good second up win. After beginning well, she travelled back in third spot, behind a fast pace before moving up to the leader (Debonairly) nearing the home turn. Glyn Schofield took her to the front at the 200m and she then battled strongly to score by short-neck and in quick time (1:08.84). Godolphin-raced filly Manicure settled back in eighth place, caught deep (with cover) from her outside barrier (16). She put in a good run nearing the 200m and finished really well to dead-heat for second in a smart effort, advancing in class here. Problem Solver was smartly away from a wide barrier and raced in fourth place before moving up to challenge shortly after turning for home. She then kept battling on strongly to dead-heat for second. Another Godolphin-raced filly Demerara, a winner of both starts this preparation, settled in fifth place (one off the rails), got along the inner to challenge nearing the 100m and fought on gamely for (0.3 lengths) fourth.
