2018 FERNHILL HANDICAP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Mile event which lacks in terms of apparent early speed. Open sort of race. RHEINGAU looks like a genuine value play. Took on the older horses in a Newcastle maiden a fortnight ago where he ran second. Returns to his own age and should be fitter third run from a spell.

ARISTOCRATIC MISS ran second in The Schweppervescence last start. Settled back and was making plenty of late ground. Gave the indication she would appreciate the mile. Is however a long way into her maiden prep.

MUSWELLBROOK improved sharply in his second career start when winning over 1500m at Mornington last start.

CRISTAL EYES was good up to 1400m last start when winning at Pakenham. Consider out to the mile. BOLD ARIAL has placed in her past two outings. Keep in mind fourth up.

Form Preview

Lindsay Park-trained filly Futooh appreciated the step up to 1600m to score her first win at stakes level and her second win in six starts to date. She was ridden quietly and settled in second last place in the eleven-horse field before improving nicely between runners rounding the home turn. Jason Collett switched her to the inner to gain a clear run at the 200m, she hit the front at the 100m and went on to win by a long neck, running the distance out well. The winner's lightly-raced stablemate Muswellbrook had a nice trip in third place on the rails, got a split to take the lead at the 200m and he then battled back gamely for a really good second in a most promising effort at only his third race start. The favourite Aristocratic Miss was a bit slow to move but recovered to settle in sixth place on the rails. She angled into clear running on straightening, challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on to hold third, perhaps being tested by the advance to 1600m.
