The Mick Kent-trained Abbey Marie will go to auction after she races on Saturday, being one of the star entries for the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

The Redoute’s Choice mare is already a Group One winner, having won the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide two years ago when she was a three-year-old.

Her older full sister Absolutely, also trained by Kent, won the G1 ATC Australian Oaks and was second in the Australasian Oaks as a 3YO in 2011.

The Australasian Oaks was Abbey Marie’s last win and Kent knows adding another G1 to her record on the eve of the Magic Millions sale will be a huge boost to her sale ring value.

Kent is adamant Abbey Marie has been one of the unluckiest big race performers in Australia since her Oaks success.

“She’s been a very unlucky mare,” Kent said.

“She should have won the Orr Stakes and should have won the Dato Tan Nim Chan. Have a look at her runs.”

Kent also feels another G1 win escaped her at her latest start when she finished fifth in the Coolmore Legacy (Queen of the Turf) at Randwick on April 14.

“She should have won,’’ Kent said. ‘‘She got stuck inside horses and went to the line untested.

“Anyway, we have another fly at the stumps in Queensland.”

Abbey Marie, who has won three of her 15 starts and $510,000 prizemoney, travelled north after the Randwick race and was given an easy hitout in a barrier trial at Murwillumbah last Monday.

Abbey Marie is listed to be one of the first lots sold when the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale starts at the Gold Coast on May 29.

Whether she continues racing or is retired to stud immediately will be a decision for her new owners.
