2018 NATIONAL STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Expecting Tequila Time and Heaven's Deal to show speed from the gates. TEQUILA TIME is a winning machine making it four straight when landing the Sires last week. That took his unbeaten run this campaign to four and although he is on the back up and dropping in distance he is race fit and tough. Can add another feature win.

HEAVEN'S DEAL is a promising filly unbeaten in two runs. Fought hard to win the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes last outing. Can take another step forward.

CRACK THE CODE kicked off his career with a Flemington win. Oliver goes on. Has upside. YULONG MERCURY was just nosed out by Crack The Code when resuming. Can progress.

Marcel From Madrid, a half-brother to this year's ATC Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Levendi, came away late for a nice win here to remain unbeaten in two starts. He was away slowly but moved forward to be midfield but wide at the 800m. Improving steadily, rider Damian Lane brought him wider into the home straight, balanced, then went after the leaders. Inside the 200m he sped to challenge, caught the new leader at the 100m then came away over the final 50m to win well. A good run from Aristia, who was third last into the straight, tracked the winner upon straightening and ran on well to nab second late. Favourite Tequila Time was handy enough but wide turning in, took over at the 150m but came to the end of it, fading slightly to third from Secret Blaze who was last at the 300m and finished well when it was all over for fourth.
