ROSEHILL TRIAL WATCH – July 23

3 minute read

Chris Scholtz reviews the Rosehill trials on July 23.

As usual all the media focus at Monday’s Rosehill set centered on Winx but astute trial watchers looking for future winners found plenty of eye-catching runners worthy of attention.

Mark these down in your blackbook as horses to follow from Monday’s trials:-

LANCIATO (Mark Newnham): Could he be the next Epsom winner? You bet he can!

This was his second trial since resuming and just like his first at Randwick on July 13 he really took the eye working home strongly under no pressure for fourth in the hot 900m heat of the day won by She Will Reign. He was equally as good – maybe better - running through the line on terms with Kementari and ahead of Winx in the same heat.

He looks in great physical order to build on his already impressive record through the spring.

EGYPTIAN SYMBOL (Bjorn Baker): No mare has been trialling better with her effort for second behind her Group One winning stablemate Music Magnate a replica of the effort she put in against the same horse in a similar Rosehill heat on July 9.

Music Magnate always runs time in his trials and while he has looked good leading them up in both trials she has sprinted home fast over the last 200m from midfield with her rider swinging to her.

She is flying and will shake up any race she is set for fresh, especially if it’s against her own sex.

ENCRYPTION (James Cummings): The Black Opal Stakes winner still has his best ahead of him and judging by this strong trial return he will be a real player in the spring Group races for his age group.

Settled last in his 900m heat before taken wide to circle the field from the 500m. He cruised into second place at the 100m but was then eased and allowed to idle to the line behind the sharp winner Charge.

He’s a striking Lonhro colt very much in the same place where Kementari was at this time last year. Definite Golden Rose/Caulfield Guineas type.

NASAAYIM (Hayes/Dabernig): Winner of two races in Victoria early in the season and has now trialled twice in Sydney in good style as she gets ready for the coming Princess Series for the 3YO fillies.

She will be a player as there was a lot to like about the way she was able to sit three wide off the pace and respond under little urging to pick up a promising type in Symi in good time in the last 100m.

She’s a typical Redoute’s Choice filly getting a good grounding for her Sydney campaign.

DEBATE (Team Hawkes): First trial for this good looking daughter of So You Think and she did everything right to finish second in her 900m heat after leading them up under a tight hold.

The winner Wonderbabe had to be put under pressure to get the upper hand in the last 100m while Tommy Berry was content to sit quietly on this filly and let her cruise to the line with plenty in hand.

They ran time and beat the others by a clear margin, a good indicator that she has the talent to win races.

NOTED TRIALS: Eagle Bay; Futooh; Secret Lady; Symi; Adagirl; Wonderbabe; Signore Fox; Performer; Vendome; Charge.
