Stablemates Oppose Lees Winners

The Kris Lees pair Hallelujah Boy and Envy Of All face opposition from stablemates when they chase city hat-tricks at Rosehill on Saturday.

Lees has decided to run both Hallelujah Boy (James McDonald) and Our Gravano (Rachel King) in the Destiny’s Kiss BM 89 (2000m) and Envy Of All (Blake Shinn) and Upscale (Jason Collett) in the NSWROA BM 83 (1200m).

Hallelujah Boy has won his last two starts at Randwick and Doomben while Envy Of All scored at the Ipswich Cup meeting last month before coming home to win at Randwick.

“Hallelujah Boy has done well since returning to Newcastle, but steps up in grade,” stable foreman Cameren Swan said.

“He needs to be right at the top of his game on Saturday, but the race is certainly not beyond him.

“Kris has decided to put blinkers on Our Gravano. Things just didn’t go right for him at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago.

“He is looking for 2000m now and hopefully the blinkers can switch him right on.

Upscale and Envy Of All both should run well, with perhaps a slight leaning to the former.

“She showed rapid improvement from her first run back from a long break to her second run when she did a terrific job to finish second at Rosehill a fortnight ago.

“Envy Of All continues to take the next step and no doubt is a big chance again. Both have drawn well and should get nice runs.”

Lees, nearing the end of a record-breaking season in terms of winners, will have eight runners at the meeting.

The remaining four are Aliferous, Powerline, Admiral Jello and Well Sprung.

Experienced jockey Darryl McLellan makes his comeback to Sydney racing with the mount on Admiral Jello, who resumes in the Winter Challenge.

“Digger has been putting in plenty of time riding work for us since returning to Newcastle, and Kris has rewarded him with the Admiral Jello booking,” Swan said.

Admiral Jello is on a path toward the Wyong Cup/Newcastle Cup double. He finished third to Broadside in the Newcastle Cup last year.

“Admiral Jello won a recent 1200m trial here, and has raced well fresh in the past but he will definitely take benefit from this outing,” Swan said.

“Aliferous did a good job to score at her first start at Newcastle a fortnight ago.

“There weren’t really any other options with her, and she is jumping from 1200m to 1500m in city grade. Still, she has trained on well.

“Powerline has a 2kg claim to lessen his weight to 59kg, but has a difficult task from the outside alley.

“Well Sprung has been unplaced at all three runs since arriving from Victoria, and has to be taken on trust even though he has a favorable draw.”

Lees has decided to split his two runners at Saturday’s Doomben meeting.

Rather than pit them against each other, he has opted to start Raiden in the Class 6 Handicap (1110m) and Cordoned in the Class 3 Plate (1200m).

Both horses are raced by Australian Bloodstock and clients, and Jeff Lloyd will ride them.

Lees has clinched 13 wins in Queensland in his current record-breaking season – and five of them have been at Doomben.
