Trainer Gary Portelli is confident three-year-old colt Exceltic will appreciate a step up in trip at Rosehill on Saturday.

Portelli will start Exceltic in the Ming Dynasty Quality over 1400m.

Exceltic, who remains a maiden after five starts, ran sixth behind Sandbar, in the Rosebud (Listed, 1100m) on August 11, his second start back from a spell.

"The 1400 metres looks ideal for him," Portelli said.

"They have been too sharp for him over the shorter trips."

Porteilli also has veteran gelding Testashadow in the Premier’s Cup at Rosehill.

"As he gets older he is also getting more dour so I think the 1900 will suit," he said.

"He ran well in the Prelude over 1800 metres."
