Avilius looks a horse of top level ability after a dynamic win in the 2018 Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Avilius swooped on them late to stake his claim for the Metrop.

Now unbeaten in three Australian starts, Godolphin-raced import Avilius looks on track for The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick on September 29 after another impressive win here. He was again ridden quietly by Glyn Schofield and settled back in 12th place, before improving (between runners) rounding the home turn. He then again produced his great turn of foot, hit the front at the 50m and went on to score comfortably. Brimham Rocks raced in sixth place, on the rails, got along the inner at the 200m and then fought well for a good second. I Am Serious raced in second place, got to the front at the 200m and she then held on well for third in another very honest performance. Patrick Erin battled on for fourth while Big Duke (fifth) ran on strongly from second last at the home turn, One Foot In Heaven (sixth) also made ground while Libran came from last in the 16-horse field to finish (3.4 lengths) seventh.
