Top class colt The Autumn Sun is now the winner of four of five starts with two at Group 1 level. Having his second run this preparation, he settled at the tail of the nine-horse field from his outside barrier (9). Kerrin McEvoy took him deep coming to the 300m before the colt sprinted strongly and overhauled his rivals nearing the post to score a narrow but most convincing win. Zousain, runner-up to The Autumn Sun in the J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) in June, once again found his stablemate too good with another second at Group 1 level here. He had a nice trip in fourth place from his inside barrier (1), took the lead and looked the winner on passing the 200m, only to be caught nearing the post for (short neck) second. The favourite Graff settled back in seventh place, one off the rails, improved (deep) rounding the home turn, put in a bid in the centre of the track at the 200m and then fought on well for third in a very sound effort. Sandbar had a nice trip in third place on the rails, challenged coming to the 200m and then fought well for (1.5 lengths) fourth. Lean Mean Machine raced in sixth place on the rails, eased into clear running on turning for home and then kept fighting on well for (3.2 lengths) fifth.
