Talented Darren Weir-trained gelding Night's Watch took his highly consistent record to eight wins (and four placings) from 17 starts in scoring his first Group success here. He settled back in 14th place, before commencing a wide move coming to the 600m. He went deepest of all from the 300m and then came with a dashing late finish (wide out) to grab victory on the post. Rising Red had a good trip in third place on the rails, looked the winner when he went along the inner to take the lead on turning for home, only to be caught in the last few strides for a very good second at his second run back. Odeon raced in ninth place, on the rails, improved (between runners) nearing the home turn, got a split coming to the 200m, challenged strongly at the 100m and fought really well for a close up third. Sir Charles Road raced back in tenth place, improved (deep) at the home turn and kept running on well for (1.8 lengths) fourth.
