Damian Lane Booked For El Dorado Dreaming

3 minute read

Melbourne star Damian Lane will be reunited with Group One winner El Dorado Dreaming when she resumes at Caulfield on Sunday week.

El Dorado Dreaming will have her first start for her new trainer Kris Lees in the Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield.

Lane has ridden El Dorado Dreaming only once when she swept home to record an upset win at triple figure odds in the G1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick in April.

The Ilovethiscity filly joined the Lees stable at Newcastle with another G1 winner In Her Time last week following the suspension of their former trainer Ben Smith.

El Dorado Dreaming was ridden by Andrew Gibbons when she impressed with a strong finishing win over Everest contender In Her Time (Corey Brown) in a 1000m barrier trial at Broadmeadow on Wednesday.

In Her Time shared the lead in the trial and was not tested as El Dorado Dreaming sprinted strongly from three lengths behind her stablemate at the 300m to win the trial narrowly in 58.3 seconds, running her last 600m in 33.01 seconds.

“You couldn’t help but be pleased with both horses,” Lees said.

“El Dorado Dreaming was impressive. I thought she was pretty sharp.

“El Dorado Dreaming is off to Melbourne and In Her Time will run in the Premiere Stakes at Randwick on Saturday week as her lead-up to The Everest.”

The Guineas Prelude will be El Dorado Dreaming’s dress rehearsal for the G1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13.

Lees also has the unbeaten filly Smart Melody, an impressive Flemington winner last Saturday, and the last start Randwick winner Reginae heading towards the Thousand Guineas.

Smart Melody will also start in the Guineas Prelude while Reginae can confirm a Guineas berth if she races up to expectations at Caulfield on Saturday.

Mark Zahra will ride Reginae in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m).

“She has settled in well and importantly has drawn nicely with the rail out nine metres,” Lees said of Reginae.

“Provided she races well, she will go straight into the Guineas.”
