Happy to stick with what looks a quality filly in the Tips and Race Preview for the 2018 Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield on Sunday.

Smart Melody just has to run this out. She’s a $2.50 chance in the 2018 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on Sunday.

2018 THOUSAND GUINEAS PRELUDE – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Peaceful has raced on speed in New Zealand. Sundabarns can press forward and Thrillster probably has to from the wide draw.

SMART MELODY won't want to be far away in the run and she certainly has the pace to take up a handy position at the 1400m. She was terrific late in the piece at Flemington last time and should stay the 1400m on that evidence. Exciting filly and the one they have to stop.

MULTAJA was a disappointment behind her but the stop-start nature of the race probably didn't suit. One for the forgiving but she has talent.

MUSIC BAY ripped home and made Smart Melody work. She's likely to get the 1400m and prove a danger once again. Anjana is another looking to turn things around and Spanish Whisper is hard fit.

Form Preview

Talented filly Smart Melody maintained her unbeaten record, stepping up to Group 2 class and staged another impressive effort in recording her fifth victory. She began well and worked in the early stages before racing outside the leader (Spanish Whisper). She dashed to the front on turning for home and then fought back gamely to win well. Consistent filly Thrillster has now raced six times for three wins and three placings. She settled in eighth place but deep from her outside barrier (13), improved (still wide) from the 600m, went to third on turning for home and continued to make ground, getting to within a length of the winner for a very good second. El Dorado Dreaming settled back in ninth place, between runners, switched into clear running on straightening and ran on really well for third in a very promising first-up effort for her new trainer Kris Lees. Anjana raced in seventh place on the rails, improved (under riding) from the 300m and kept making ground to finish (2.2 lengths) fourth. Qafila settled near the tail of the field, went deep on straightening and continued to run on well for (3.7 lengths) fifth, looking suited to further.
