Godolphin's Hartnell showed his quality in scoring here in this Group 1 handicap under his 57kg top weight and is now the winner of four at Group 1 level from 1400m to 2400m. He settled in eighth place before tracking up nicely coming to the home turn. Hugh Bowman brought him with a well-timed run from the 200m and he responded to score a narrow but strong win on the post. D'Argento had a good trip in seventh place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), looked the winner when he took the lead at the 200m, only to be caught on the post for (half head) second. Unforgotten raced back in 12th place, improved (between runners) from the 300m and kept running on well for a good third, perhaps finding the 1600m trip a shade short of her preferred distances. Shillelagh raced back in 15th place and ran on in very good style for (1.2 lengths) fourth at her second run back. Muraaqeb was handy all the way and did well in this class in fighting on for (1.6 lengths) fifth while Arbeitsam was a fast pace, only tiring from the 200m for (1.9 lengths) sixth in a very good effort.
