RANDWICK SATURDAY

THE EPSOM: Heat 1 at Rosehill on September 21 over 1030m won by SINGLE GAZE was full of Group performers and included Epsom Handicap contenders UNFORGOTTEN, LANCIATO and SHILLELAGH. Good to see a fitter SINGLE GAZE show something like here old self as she railed up to win comfortably but it was a bunched group behind her with nothing put under pressure in average time (1.02.74/last 600m 34.9). UNFORGOTTEN was seventh over the line but was the pick as she was under double wraps and went to the line boxed in between runners. LANCIATO (4th) cruised up along the rails behind Single Gaze from the rear with no serious intent to chase the winner while SHILLELAGH (9th) was out the back enjoying her conditioning exercise and had plenty to offer as well.

RACE 9: CRAFTY COP (Rosehill – September 21) - Talented sprinter looks ready to go first-up after a strong win in his open 908m heat. Let several rivals go out quick, sitting back fourth before rounding them up with ease. He cruised to the line for a stylish win in handy time for the session (54.09/34.60).

NEWCASTLE SATURDAY

RACE 5: SEPARATED (Randwick September 13) - All Too Hard filly showed promise in her two starts in good fields last season and should not be long breaking out of maiden class after this eye catching second in her 1050m heat. No pressure early to settle well off the pace before pulling her way into the trial coming to the turn. Kept under a double grip from James McDonald but was still able to make ground all the way to the line without being let off the leash. (Heat 6)

RACE 1: CATEGORIC (Warwick Farm September 24) - He’s had five trials in the last 10 months and the time now looks right to send this Zoustar 3YO to the races for the first time after he worked well within himself for a strong third in a quick heat over 798m, closing off strongly behind the sharp winner RECONSIDER in good time (46.89/33.40).

RANDWICK MONDAY

RACE 1: DIPLOMATICO (Rosehill September 21) - They have been patient with this $1.7 million colt, giving him just one start last season when he was narrowly beaten at Rosehill. This impressive trial win over 908m (54.98/34.50) ensures he will be well found when he resumes, taking up the lead after 200m and then showing classy acceleration when given a nudge by Brenton Avdulla at the 300m to run away to an easy six lengths win. Looks capable of progressing quickly to black type.

RACE 1: FLYING LEGEND (Randwick September 13) - Only the second trial and first since May for this unraced Redoute’s Choice filly indicates she is a future winner. Took up the running in her 740m heat with ease and travelled well within herself under a cool ride by Kerrin McEvoy to comfortably hold rivals in quick time. Watch for her in maiden class.

RACE 8: LIVE AND FREE: (Randwick September 13) - Smothered away back in the field in his 1050m heat and never asked for a serious effort at any stage by James McDonald but the intent was obvious as he made ground last 200m under no pressure. Lightly-raced 4YO by Savabeel is building nicely into his coming campaign as this was his second trial since he contested the Queensland Derby when he was a victim of a heavy track after winning three of his previous four starts. Spring banker. (Heat 2).
