2018 SYDNEY STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Jungle Edge prominent from an inside draw while Music Magnate can work across. CLEARLY INNOCENT resumes and profiles like a genuine value bet as one of the class runners in the field.

Lines up in what looks his easiest assignment for some time after respectable efforts behind the likes of Redzel and In Her Time last season. Stable is flying and has won four of his five starts on rain affected tracks. Bowman riding can be considered a positive lead.

JUNGLE EDGE gets back on a wet track for the first time since the winter. Should thrive in the anticipated conditions. PIERATA is a talent. Won the Missile Stakes at this course and distance first up. Dropping from a mile to 1200m a fortnight after the Epsom not ideal however.

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE is flying and has an excellent record on rain affected ground. KAEPERNICK was excellent first up when second in the Concorde Stakes behind Redzel.

Pierata, who raced below his best when ninth in the Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) at his previous start, appreciated the shorter distance here to record a very smart win. He settled in third place (racing deep), sprinted quickly to take the lead at the 300m and was untroubled from that point to score easily, handling the heavy 9 conditions well. Noted wet-tracker Jungle Edge went to the front as expected and battled well for second, having no chance with the winner. Clearly Innocent raced back in ninth place, moved up (deep) rounding the home turn and ran on nicely to take third just in front of Tactical Advantage who was a handy on the rails, got through on the inner on turning for home and battled on for (5.3 lengths) fourth after appearing to have had every chance.
